We expect you to be able to find extensive information on this website. We are very proud of the college and this site should give you an insight into what a wonderful place Cottenham Village College is to study and work.
We are very proud of our academic ethos and extensive extra curricular programme. As you would expect, the academic achievement of our students is paramount. We deliver a traditional curriculum to an exceptionally high standard to ensure good results. In August 2017 73% of our students achieved five A*-C grades or equivalent including English and Mathematics and 27% of all grades awarded were A or A* grades. In the new more difficult qualifications at GCSE, 76% of pupils achieved a grade four or better in both English and Mathematics; a grade four is at the level of a grade C in previous years.
Our vision is to ensure that all pupils are able to access the rich knowledge that has been handed down through the ages: young people are entitled to experience, in Matthew Arnold’s words the best that has been thought and said. Access to the shared knowledge intelligent adults take for granted is a democratic right in order to understand and shape our community, our country and our world – to have our say in our democracy.
We are very proud of being a Village College; placing education in the heart of our community and our community in the heart of our college.
We complement our academic curriculum with an extensive enrichment programme. From after school clubs to international trips, we give our students access to the cultural literacy to enable them to fully participate in adult educated life.
Whilst we are focussed on academic outcomes, Cottenham is small enough for us to know all our students as individuals. We take great pride in developing relationships between students, staff and families, in order that we can ensure that success is desirable, demanded and achievable. This striving for success is exemplified in our ambition to develop “the best in you” – an indication that our values mean that we expect, aspire and support in order to bring out the very best in students and staff.
We operate with a strict approach to discipline ensuring our students develop the habits that will be necessary to be successful independent adults. Our students are therefore a credit to us and we are very proud of their example. Students are able to learn in calm, purposeful classrooms.
Please do not hesitate to contact the college on 01954 288 944 or via firstname.lastname@example.org if you cannot find what you are looking for, or want to provide any feedback regarding this site.
While I hope you find what you are looking for, nothing really matches looking round a school and seeing for yourself. If you wish to visit, please do not hesitate to contact me (as above) and one of my senior staff or myself will be pleased to meet with you and show you round. I am always delighted to meet parents, members of the community or prospective pupils or colleagues.
