Scholars from Cottenham Village College took part in a 3km ‘Colour Run’ with over 500 young people from local schools in Cambridge recently. The school, which was also joined by Astrea’s St Ivo Academy, invited students from Year 7, aged 11 and 12, to join youngsters from 28 schools across the county at Milton Country Park, on the outskirts of Cambridge for a day of running and pop-up sporting activities.

The annual ‘Schools Colour Run’ festival is hosted to support children with their health, happiness and wellbeing by encouraging them to be active. Organised by Living Sport, the aim of the day was to support students in physical activities, grow their confidence at secondary school and have fun outdoors.

As well as the colour run, where washable paint powder is showered on the runners, students could visit the activity village, enjoy rock climbing, inflatables, smoothie-making, archery and more. There was an exhilarating game of laser tag against other schools and three lucky students won a Fitbit each.

Hanan McKeand, interim Principal at CVC said:

“This was a brilliant day for our students to attend and I know they had lots of fun. This event was an excellent opportunity for our students to build resilience, team building and confidence and I am delighted they got so much out of the day.”
