Timings of the school day from September 2023

21 June 2023

Dear CVC Families.

Re: Timings of the School Day from September 2023

By September 2023, all state-funded, mainstream schools will be expected to provide a compulsory school week of at least 32.5 hours. Currently, we are slightly short of this expectation at CVC and will therefore need to make some slight adjustments for the return to school in September.  This is so we can squarely meet this governmental requirement.

From September 2023, the registration session will begin at 8.40am and the end of the school day will be at 3.10pm. All providers of school bus services to Cottenham Village College are aware of this change and have changed their bus timings accordingly. It is, therefore, not necessary to contact the school bus company directly.  New timetables will be shared from Cambridgeshire Education Transport, once available.  The school buses will depart CVC at 3.20pm at the end of the school day and a second set of buses for clubs, extracurricular activities and detentions will run at 4.20pm.

These timings will apply to all year groups, the current Year 10 students will not continue to have a compulsory extended day on a Monday. We will continue to host a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities through our after-school programme which will be shared at the start of each school term and there will be opportunities for KS4 students to sign up to these additional opportunities.

The additional time in school will be added to our tutor time programme, to support the delivery of our ‘Be kind, work hard’ culture sessions and give additional opportunities to address any safeguarding or personal development priorities within the school.

For students who travel to school on foot, by bike, public bus or by car, the school site will be open for arrival in the morning from 8:25-08:40am via the canteen entrance, therefore, please plan your journey times to coincide arrival within this timeframe.

Yours faithfully,

Zoe Andrews

Principal
